Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths all come together in the latest Year 6 DT day.

Year 6 students had the amazing opportunity to work with the Institute of Civil Engineers ICE Bridge to School project.  The 15 metre long cable stay bridge, similar to that of the Second Severn Crossing was constructed by teams of students throughout the day.

The project came about after an enthusiastic parent, Mrs G Smith, saw the opportunity to link the project with her Year 6 son’s work in Design Technology on structures, in his Wacky Racer car project.

Carillion-Tarmac , whom, Mrs Smith works for, sponsored the day and  were eager for local students to understand the type of construction processes that go into bridge building , tying in to their own work on the major bridge construction in Uttoxeter.

With hard hats, safety gloves and jackets students got to work on construction, testing and expanding their knowledge.

Great team work, problem solving and the chance to get involved in a fun S.T.E.M activity!!  Well done Year 6 and thanks to Carillion-Tarmac.

We hope to be continuing to forge yet another industrial link in DT for the future by running this project next year.
