Welcome to maths at Windsor Park C of E (E) Middle School.

We pride ourselves in enabling pupils to develop mathematical ideas and understanding, as well as reasoning and problem solving skills, in order for them to achieve their full potential, both now and in the future

We believe that it is vital that pupils view mathematics as a relevant activity with links to the world outside school and our teaching aims to encourage this attitude. The department aims to interest and motivate students by using a wide variety of approaches. These include: whole class teaching; group work; individualised work; investigative work; practical work; and the use of ICT.

In recent years and in line with government policy, the maths department has developed a more problem-solving approach to learning the subject as many pupils find it difficult to transfer simple ideas to different contexts. There is also now a renewed emphasis on basic numeracy and mental maths.

In addition to the work done in maths lessons, we have a strong whole school focus on numeracy. All lessons, when appropriate, are planned to involve the teaching of numeracy – with our staff receiving the latest training on a regular basis. Many other maths enrichment activities are available to pupils, including clubs and WOW days.
